Reza Shahabi refused medical treatment after passing out!

Reza Shahabi, a member of the Executive Committee of the Trade Union of the Tehran Vahed Bus Company, has now been on hunger strike for 31 days.

Yesterday, on the thirtieth day of his hunger strike, he passed out. However, the medical personnel in Rejai Shahr prison’s infirmary refused to him any medical treatment so long as he continues with his hunger strike!

Thirty-one days, on June 1, Reza Shahabi began his hunger strike in protest against his transfer from ward 350 of Evin to Rajai Shahr prison and that the prison authorities have tortured and mistreated so much during for the past two years that he now needs surgery on his vertebrae and neck. In April 2012 Reza Shahabi was sentenced to six years in prison, banned from trade union activities for five years and fined 7 million tomans (€4700 at the time) for standing up for workers’ rights.

Iranian Workers’ Solidarity Network condemns the Iranian regime’s imprisonment of labour activists and demands the immediate and unconditional release of all labour activists and workers.
