Shahrokh Zamani has been imprisoned since 2011 for organising within his trade union; the Iranian Painter’s Union. According to the Iranian state his crimes are “spreading propaganda against the regime and forming socialist groups” as well as “endangering national security”. He has been sentenced to 11 years.

During his time in prison he has faced much physical and mental abuse and has gone on several hunger strikes. Due to his activism inside prison he may be charged with “disturbing public order”.

There has been an early day motion made by the House of Commons to urge the Iranian government to release Shahrokh and “calls upon the UK Government to press the Iranian government to respect trade union rights and International Labour Organisation conventions.”

Come to the Iranian Embassy to show solidarity with Shahrokh Zamani and demand that the Iranian authorities release him immediately – trade union activism should not be a crime!
