Tehran: active boycott of elections by distributing leaflets in support of political prisoners

04Mar16

The atmosphere in society in the run-up to the sham “elections” of the regime provides an opening and an opportunity that can be used so that the “elections” themselves can be exposed and the independent demands of the movement posed, so that the boycott can take place in a practical form.

The Workers’ Action Committee published two posters that proposed the “active boycott” by highlighting the slogans calling for the release of all political prisoners and the investigation of the murder of Shahrokh Zamani, a revolutionary labour activist, in Rejai-Shahr prison. Following the recent activities comrades of the Action Committee in Kermanshah and Alborz, another activity took place in Tehran – images to follow.

In a situation of dispersion and fragmentation within the movement, this type of activity can only be tangible and serve its purpose if it returns confidence to the movement and jailed activists. This can only come about through “unity of action”. Obviously the different tendencies in the movement can have their united action, such as distributing leaflets and posters and joint activities, by demanding the release of imprisoned activists. We therefore ask that other tendencies in the labour movement join this campaign through unity of action and actively boycott the elections by highlighting the independent demands of the labour movement and the release of political prisoners.
