Saghez update No. 1

We have received further information about events in Saghez:
A- One of the 40-50 people arrested is Borhan Divangard.
B- Mohsen Hakimi and Mahmood Salehi had earlier had an interview with an ICFTU delegation visiting Iran. It is thought that this is the reason behind their arrest.

Mobilise to free the activists arrested in Saghez (Iranian Kurdistan)!

According to reports received from Iran:
“The May Day rally in Saghez led to clashes with the police and the arrest of workers from Saghez and Bookan [towns in Iranian Kurdistan]. Those arrested include:
1- Mohammad Abadi-poor,
2- Mahmood Salehi,
3- Jalal Hosseini,
4- Mohsen Hakimi.”

Iranian Workers’ Solidarity Network (IWSN) condemns this anti-democratic act and demands the unconditional and immediate release of all workers.

IWSN calls on all international progressive organisations and forces to send protest letters to the authorities of the Iranian government demanding the immediate release of all those arrested.

IWSN is translating news of these workers’ arrests so as to raise this issue among progressive organisations throughout the world. To help in this task, we call on those who have contacts within the workers’ movement in Iran to request, where possible, that the names of all those arrested be sent to us so that through contact with international organisations we can force the regime to free all those under arrest.
