Imprisoned Reza Shahabi rushed to hospitalReza Shahabi was rushed to hospital on November 26 as his week-long hunger strike began to take its toll. After a week on hunger strike, Reza Shahabi, a leading member of the Trade Union of the Tehran and Suburbs Vahed Bus Company, was rushed to hospital for urgent treatment.
Mr Shahabi has been held in Evin prison since his arrest on June 12 2010. During his detention he has been held in solitary confinement, denied medical treatment and was once interrogated continuously for a month. He has been put under enormous psychological pressure to accept the charges brought against him by the Intelligence Ministry interrogator. Reza Shahabi began the current hunger strike after the judicial authorities turned down his request for bail a second time and increased the cash sum they demanded for his release.
