Free the Mourning Mothers!

Reports from Iran indicate that about 15 of the grieving mothers [of dead protesters] have been taken to Evin Prison.

According to reports received, about 30 of the grieving mothers and their supporters were arrested by the police and plain-clothes agents on the afternoon of Saturday, January 9, 2010, in Laleh Park.

Following the deaths of Neda Agha-Soltan and Sohrab Aarabi in June 2009, the mothers who had been bereaved following the death of their children during the recent events or in the past few years, together with their supporters, established the ‘Mourning Mothers’ [group].

Every Saturday the ‘Mourning Mothers’ and their supporters, dressed in black, gather in Laleh Park in Tehran at a specific time. They demand that the murderers of their children, or those responsible for their disappearance, be identified and punished. But the security forces always brake-up their gatherings and arrest some of them.

We demand the immediate release of all ‘Mourning Mothers’.
